In adopting a “direct to retail” strategy, Southern Produce has positioned itself as one of the leading suppliers of avocados, blueberries and kiwifruit in the Australasian region. This strategy is also used within our Asian markets.
Our direct to retail model creates supply chain efficiencies that provide:
- Our customers with competitive purchasing
- Our suppliers with industry leading orchard gate returns (OGR)
Southern Produce also supplies a moderate volume into the wholesale markets.
Southern Produce markets a range of products including avocados, blueberries, kiwiberries and kiwifruit. While our own ‘portfolio’ continues to grow, our roots still remain very much in avocados and kiwifruit.
Most of the fruit sold is packed in bulk; loose in boxes rather than in trays but we also own a pre-pack operation based in Te Puke where a significant volume is punneted and bagged for various retail programmes domestically and overseas.
Southern Produce is located in the picturesque and bountiful Bay of Plenty, which is New Zealand’s primary kiwifruit producing region, and also an area with significant avocado production.
Our growers supply us with fruit of outstanding quality from New Zealand’s most fertile and productive horticultural regions – The Far North, Northland, The Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Nelson.
Our offices are strategically and conveniently located in Te Puna; within 15 kilometres of New Zealand’s busiest export container port, the Port of Tauranga; and only three hours drive from Auckland.
